All railway engines ‘dilapidated’

Express April 29, 2010

RAWALPINDI: Almost all railway engines are out of order, but the management is forcing drivers to continue using them, said the chief organiser of All Pakistan Railway Carriage and Wagon Staff Association, Mubarak Hussain.

He said operating trains with defective engines could pose a serious threat to passengers. Addressing a meeting of the association, he said the management was responsible for the railway’s deficit. He demanded that railway lands be freed from squatters and salaries of employees be raised by 100 percent. He also sought for the salary of railway police to be brought at par with Punjab police and project allowance be given to employees of the carriage factory.
