ISLAMABAD: Golra police have arrested a man and his two sons for allegedly killing their step-brother, said a police official on Wednesday.

The suspects, identified as Muhammad Riaz, Muhammad Shahbaz and Muhammad Yousaf, allegedly killed Muhammad Asif, who was found dead last month in the jurisdiction of the Golra Police Station, said investigation officer of the case Rana Idrees.

He said on October 19, Asif, who worked as a cook and lived in Ghousia Colony F-12, was found hanging from a tree. Police had registered a case and started investigation and on Wednesday arrested the suspects.

Asif was murdered after he showed an interest to marry a girl of his choice, said the officer. The suspects purchased a rope from a local market and killed him, he added.

Police obtained their three-day physical remand for further investigation, Idrees said.

The police spokesman said SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani had assigned the task to SP (Saddar) Rizwan Gondal to arrest the killers. Later, a special team headed by DSP Idrees Rathor and Golra SHO Muhammad Aslam was constituted.

The spokesman said Inspector General of Police Tahir Alam Khan has appreciated the performance of the police team and announced a cash prize for them.

Since January 1, 2015 till October 31, 2015, a total of 11 murder cases were reported in the jurisdiction of Golra police, however, authorities are yet to bring any of the culprits to book.

A source at the police station said they were hoping to break this year’s record of solving zero murder cases after the arrest of these suspects.
