SUKKUR: One person was killed and three others were kidnapped in clashes between groups near Longani village situated in Dad Laghari police station limits on Monday.

Three assailants allegedly belonging to Pakistan Muslim League - Functional (PML-F), gunned down Suhrab Mahar, a supporter of the Mahar group, when he was on his way to Longani Mahar village.

In retaliation, members belonging to the Mahar group kidnapped three persons of PML-F, Abid Mahar, Saleem Mahar and Saddam Mahar. However, they were released within a couple of hours due to the intervention of MNA Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar.

After the medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family. Taking notice of the incident, the Ghotki SSP suspended Dad Laghari police station SHO Shahid Panhwar. Police and Rangers have been deployed in the area to prevent any further bloodshed between the two groups.

Earlier, Luni union council of taluka Daharki was declared sensitive during the elections as candidates of Mahar group and PML-F were contesting from there. The polls were won by the candidate of Mahar group. However, scuffles took place between the supporters of the two candidates on the election day, but the timely intervention of the law enforcers controlled the situation from turning into an ugly clash.
