LAHORE: Hundreds of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Lahore campus students staged a protest demonstration on Monday on the Canal Road.

The students gathered in front of the campus in Garden Town. They staged a sit in near the University of the Punjab. The protesters carried banners and placards with slogans against the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Amina Chaudhry, a BSc student, said that she had been studying at the campus for two years. “The HEC has now declared the campus illegal. The news has come as a shock to me. Why was the campus allowed to open and operate for over four years if it was illegal? We have paid hundreds of thousands of rupees in fees so far,” she said.

Earlier on Thursday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested former BZU vice chancellor over alleged irregularities and violation of rules in the establishment of the campus.
