KARACHI: A suspected target killer was killed during an alleged encounter with the police on Sharae Faisal on Sunday.

The encounter took place in Gulistan-e-Jauhar when the police conducted a raid on a tip-off about the presence of the target killer, who recently killed a clearing and forwarding agent, Azizullah, in Block 17 in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Police officials said that the accused opened fire at the police and tried to escape when the police conducted the raid, adding that the police retaliated and fired back. Resultantly, he was killed on the spot. The deceased was later identified as Faraz Baig. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.

SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said the police managed to trace the accused with the help of the suspect's mobile phone, which had fallen on the road when he killed the clearing and forwarding agent.

The officer further said that the accused was also involved in various cases of street crimes besides target killings. He added that Azizullah was also a friend of the suspect. However, the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
