Social Media Troubles: ISF activist sent on judicial remand

Jalal had used defamatory language against a judge of the Peshawar High Court on Twitter, a social media website

PESHAWAR: A local court sentenced activist Qazi Jalal, from the Insaf Student Federation, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand on Friday. Jalal was arrested by the Cyber Crime Cell of FIA for uploading defamatory content against a member of the judiciary. FIA officials presented the accused at the court of judicial magistrate Qaisar Khan, after his two-day physical remand was over. After the hearing, the court ruled for a 14-day judicial remand. According to the cybercrime department, Jalal had used defamatory language against a judge of the Peshawar High Court on Twitter, a social media website. Jalal is an ISF activist and a student of University of Agriculture in Peshawar. Since his arrest, there has been an ongoing campaign on Twitter advocating for Jalal’s release from custody.
