Judicial matters: Nine SHC judges sworn in

KARACHI:

Nine additional judges took oath on Friday, raising the strength of the the Sindh High Court (SHC) to 34 against the sanctioned strength of 40.

SHC Chief Justice Faisal Arab administered the oath to the newly appointed judges at a ceremony held on the SHC premises. President Mamnoon Hussain had, on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, appointed two district and sessions judges, Ghulam Qadri Leghari and Abdul Ghani Soomro, and seven lawyers, Muhammad Iqbal Maher, Khalid Hussain M Shaikh, Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, Mahmood A Khan, Muhammad Karim Khan Agha, Anwar Hussain and Muhammad Faisal Kamal Alam, as additional judges for a period of one year.

Earlier this month, the judicial commission had, on Arab’s recommendation, recommended the elevation of the two district and session judges and seven senior lawyers for the appointment to the provincial high court. The SHC is still short of six judges.
