A fire alarmed the authorities after it broke out in the vicinity of Bilawal House within the limits of Boat Basin.

KARACHI: A fire alarmed the authorities after it broke out in the vicinity of Bilawal House on Saturday within the limits of Boat Basin.

Its thick black plumes of smoke rose over 26th Street. They were extinguished by the fire department, which said it appeared to have broken out among the plastic and rubber pipes lying on a greenbelt in Block II, Clifton. Defence Housing Authority (DHA) fire engines reached the site. DSP Qamar Ahmed said that the burnt pipes were going to be used in a sewerage line but they caught fire from the bushes where someone might have thrown a cigarette.
