Contagion: Dengue expert urges comprehensive plan

There is a need to implement a comprehensive plan for dengue prevention and control that includes establishment of laboratory diagnostic support along with clinical case management, a leading authority on disease control said.

Senior Adviser Dr Robert Fontaine from US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) Atlanta while delivering a lecture in a technical session on dengue surveillance on Thursday said dengue endemic in Pakistan has seen peak incidence reporting in last few years.
While sharing the background he said in Pakistan the first outbreak of dengue fever was detected in 1994.
Meanwhile talking to The Express Tribune, Dr Anwar Rafay, the assistant professor in epidemiology and biostatistics at Contech School of Public Health, Lahore said, “The government is only reporting 35% of the total cases emerging in various cities.”
