PPP wants action against Shiv Sena for mistreating PCB officials

The opposition party aims to declare Shiv Sena an extremist organisation

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to raise in Parliament the issue of mistreatment of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials in India by the Hindu hardliner Shiv Sena.

The opposition party intends to pass a resolution on the issue in Parliament, which it submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat on Thursday.

The resolution aims to declare Shiv Sena an extremist organisation on international forums.

“The house strongly protests against the recent mistreatment of PCB officials by Shiv Sena in India; vehemently condemns the recent chain of incidents of hostility against Pakistani nationals on diplomatic and cultural fronts; urges the government to summon the Indian High Commissioner immediately to lodge strong protest; and appeals the government to take this issue fervently internationally and declare Shiv Sena an extremist organisation,” reads the text of the draft resolution.



It was moved by MNAs Imran Zafar Leghari, Shazia Atta Marri, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Dr Nafisa Shah and Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani.

If the NA Secretariat brings the resolution on agenda, it will induce a discussion before the house passes the resolution.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan was due to meet Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar on Monday but the meeting was postponed after Shiv Sena activists stormed the board's Mumbai office.
