Sirajul Haq says the city has been suffering for nearly three decades

KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq called upon the people of Karachi to use their ballot power to change the fate of the metropolis, saying the port city has been in trouble for the last 27 years.

“Karachiites can surely change the dynamics of the city through their votes,” he remarked while addressing a local government (LG) poll convention, titled, “Win Karachi for Karachi”, late Sunday evening.

He urged people to get rid of killers, extortionists and those who are usurping the rights of the city once and for all through their ballots.

Highlighting the lack of basic utility in the capital city of Sindh, the JI chief said that a large number of people in Karachi have still no access to potable water, adding that power supply is another major issue in the metropolis.

“Karachi could become Shanghai, Istanbul and London. People should transform the city through their votes. The power is in their hands,” he told the gathering.

A few corrupt faces have damaged the country, Sirajul Haq said. “We have to change these corrupt people through votes.”



He said that he is in Karachi to appreciate those brave people who decided to contest against some “fascist elements”. “I am not addressing citizens of Karachi, but the future of Pakistan.”

Karachi, the JI ameer said, is the city of those who had sacrificed for creation of Pakistan. He said that his party has emerged as a second largest party in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. “We’ll win election with honesty in Karachi,” he assured.

Addressing the general public, the JI leader said: “If people are ready for a change then no one can refrain a genuine change to be occurred.”

He added that decisions for Karachi would be taken in the city, not in London. “The international power could do nothing if the people of the port city once decided to change their destiny.”

‘Questionable’ elections: JI chief calls for fresh polls in Karachi

Sirajul Haq assured the audience that if JI came to power, it would change the class-based educational system and a unilateral syllabus would be introduced under which sons of the country’s president and that of a gatekeeper would read the same books.

Moreover, engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, chief of JI Karachi chapter, said that the upcoming LG polls are not just usual elections but an opportunity to bring back the culture of peace and prosperity to the city.

He asked the Karachiites if they want to remain deprived of mass transit, peace, law and order than maintain the status quo and vote for thugs, otherwise JI is an ideal alternative for people.

JI Pakistan deputy chief Asadullah Bhutto in his address said that the convention is evident that “Karachi is awakening”.

“Karachi is the economic hub and a mini Pakistan and the youth is aware of the political forces in the city,” he added.
