Darkness dawns: Spin village residents threaten to protest

Residents of Spin village will have no choice but to protest against the government if it fails to install an electricity cable from Wana Grid Station within a month.
This was said by Spin Village Electricity Committee Chairman Ali Marjan at a hotel in Wana Bazaar, South Waziristan on Sunday. According to Marjan, construction work on the cable had started five years ago under former MNA and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl leader Maulana Abdul Malik.
“However, funds were embezzled and the project was abandoned,” he said. “Those who are responsible — whether political administration officials or Tesco personnel — should be punished.”
Need of the hour
Situated about 30 kilometres south-east of Wana Bazaar, Spin village receives a negligible amount of electricity from Jandola Grid Station. “A new line from Wana must be laid down since lines from this grid station are faulty,” Marjan added.
“Spin village is facing a water crisis due to which agriculture has been adversely affected,” Marjan said. “We are forced to rely on tube wells and the lack of electricity is adding to our misery.”
According to Marjan, residents of Spin village rely on a water channel called Spin Villa. However, with the passage of time, it has dried up and a low water table and lack of electricity are creating problems for residents.
