Scores of students and doctors participated in a walk organised to mark World Sight Day on Friday.
The walk was led by Punjab Medical College Principal Sardar Alfareed Zafar, Eye Department head Muhammad Sultan. MPAs Najma Afzal and Shehab Ali were the guests of honour.
Zafar said World Sight Day was observed annually to raise awareness on visual impairment. “The day provides a platform for organisations to encourage governments, corporations, institutions and individuals to support efforts for preventing blindness” he said. Zafar also spoke about cornea transplants. “Donate your eyes,” he said. “A dead man doesn’t need them but for a blind man, they can mean a new life.” He said all children should be examined by ophthalmologists at the time of admission in schools.
