ISLAMABAD: The vice chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Dr Javed Ashraf has claimed his varsity had raised its student tuition fee by 15 to 20 per cent after two years, instead of 50 per cent as alleged by some students. He said on Wednesday that the allegations were baseless, adding that 22 of its 26 departments had raised their fees by 15 per cent, with a 20 per cent increase for the remaining four. Ashraf claimed QAU tuition fees were lower than all other public universities. Another QAU official said the university had awarded 3,556 scholarships worth over Rs95 million to students during the 2014-15 financial year. QAU students had claimed that the university raised its fee for PhD and MPhil programmes by 50 and 33 per cent, respectively. They also said fees were raised for graduate and postgraduate programmes.
