Most-wanted militant arrested in Karachi

Security agencies have arrested Ehsanullah alias Ihsan Bhai, a member of the outlawed Harkatul Mujahidin al Alami militant group, who carries a head money of Rs 500,000.
Ehsanullah was allegedly involved in an attack on the US consulate in Karachi and the burning of two dozen oil tankers in 2002-2003. “Ehsanullah was arrested from New Karachi on a tipoff,” Chief of CID’s anti-extremism cell Omer Shahid told The Express Tribune. Ehsanullah told investigators that he had joined the militant outfit in 1994. Omar Shahid described Ehsanullah’s arrest as “a significant development”. Ehsanullah’s name figures among the Top Ten in CID’s Red Book which includes the names of 87 most-wanted people.
Ehsanullah was allegedly involved in the burning of two dozen oil tankers in a single day in Karachi in 2002. Security officials believe that he had masterminded two abortive attacks on former military ruler General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi and Karachi. He was also the key planner in the 2002 suicide attack on the US consulate in Karachi that had killed 12 people.
