ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will get updates today (Sunday) on domestic politics, particularly on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) position in the upcoming by-elections in NA-122 (Lahore V) constituency and local government elections in Punjab.

According to a PM House statement, the premier will spend Sunday at his Jati Umra residence in Raiwind. Sources said Nawaz would see his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, nephew Hamza Shahbaz, daughter Maryam Nawaz, city’s political figures and his team of bureaucrats to get updates on the political scenario in the country.

Sources said Shahbaz and Hamza would update the premier about the latest situation of the ruling party’s campaign for by-election in NA-122 and the upcoming LG elections in the province. The Sharif brothers along with their team of selected bureaucrats will monitor PTI chief Imran Khan’s public address Sunday night at Dongi Ground area of Samanabad.

Sources said the PML-N senior leadership, after viewing the strength of the PTI crowd, would decide how Premier Nawaz himself should influence voters and notables in NA-122. Shahbaz has already met around 400 notables from the constituency, while the ruling party is also arranging meeting with the prime minister, before polling day on October 11.

Sources said the PML-N has received reports that there is a disagreement within the PTI over the nomination of Aleem Khan who will be contesting against former National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the seat. The PML-N is said to have mobilised around 40 MPAs and 15 MNAs in NA-122 to garner support for Sadiq.
