Bahawalpur DCO Imran Sikandar Baloch on Friday said the district administration should facilitate local government election candidates as much as possible.


He said officers of the district government should assist returning officers during scrutiny of nominations and tabulation of results.

The DCO was addressing a meeting with returning officers at his office.

District Election Commissioner Mian Muhammad Shahid and District Returning Officer Haroon Khan were also present.

Shahid briefed the participants on the procedure for local government elections. He also gave a presentation on election rules and the code of conduct.

Shahid said nomination papers would be received by October 7.

He said offices of returning officers would be open on Sundays to accept nomination papers.

He said an additional district and sessions judge had been appointed to review of appeals against decisions of returning officers.

He said candidate could withdraw their nominations by November 6.

He said no candidate could submit nomination papers for more than five seats.

He said voters could obtain information about candidates by sending an SMS to 8300.

He said citizens younger than 25 years were not eligible to be candidates.

He said government servants who had retired two years ago could contest the election.

He said two assistant returning officers would be posted with each returning officer.
