Energy crisis: 1,320MW project to be competed by 2017: CM

LAHORE: Two coal-based power projects being set up in Sahiwal will start producing electricity in 2017, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Tuesday. He paid a surprise visit to the site of the project in Qadirabad, Sahiwal.

“Two coal-based energy projects of 660 megawatts each are being set up in Sahiwal. They are an important part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor,” he said.

The chief minister directed the officials to maintain a high standard of work. “Attention should also be paid to the speedy completion of the project for achieving the best results. The Sahiwal Coal Power Project to be completed with Chinese help will play an important role in ending the energy crisis,” he said. “The Punjab government and the Chinese company will complete the project by 2017,” he said.

The chief minister was briefed about the progress of the project. He was informed that machinery needed for it had started arriving at Karachi port and steps were being taken for its speedy transportation to the site.
