The Supreme Court has rejected review petition of Moonis Elahi, the main accused in the multi-million-rupee embezzlement case at National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL).
The top court refused to review its judgement passed against the son of one of the most powerful politicians and former CM of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
The three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim was hearing review petition of Moonis Elahi, who was accused of receiving Rs320 million in the NICL scam through bogus accounts.
Waseem Sajjad Advocate, representing Moonis, said FIA in its report had acquitted his client and there is no case against him. However, due to the judgment of Supreme Court a case against him is pending in the NAB, he said.
Justice Hani said the manner the FIA was behaving in NICL case it seemed it was protecting the culprits. “It is clear to everyone now what was the investigation agency’s conduct and how the case was hushed up,” he said.
