Pakistan awaited on Wednesday a ‘positive signal’ from India for the repatriation of a 13-year-old Pakistani fisherman languishing in Gujrat jail.

Pakistan has officially confirmed the nationality of Ghulam Hussain Cheero, a teenage fisherman whose father was released from an Indian jail a few months ago. Further, Islamabad has contacted the Indian Ministry of External Affairs for his ‘immediate repatriation,’ according to the Times of India.

"Modi in response to the release of 163 Indian fishermen had promised that India will release Pakistani fishermen before Eidul Fitr, now, it's Eidul Azha. Our fishermen are rotting in Indian jails despite assurances from the highest office of India‎," a Pakistani official said.

During their meeting in Ufa, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi agreed to release detained fishermen. Although, Hussain's father was among those released as part of the agreement and as a goodwill gesture, the 13-year-old was not released.

However, MEA sources revealed that it is too soon to confirm or deny the possibility of Nawaz and Modi meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA session.

Pakistan's Foreign Office has claimed PM Nawaz is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the margins of the session; however, has not clarified whether he will meet his Indian counterpart or not.
