KARACHI:

Federal B Area's only cinema house is all set to reopen today, after being sealed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) last month, on allegations of being operated illegally.

Located near the Ayesha Manzil flyover, Cinepax City Auditorium cinema was catering to a large clientele from North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Cinepax general manager Mohsin Yaseen confirmed to The Express Tribune that they will reopen on Wednesday. The cinema's administration was accused of not clearing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's (KMC) dues and operating illegally as a third party. However, Yaseen denied the charge of operating as a third party and said it was a joint venture with Furqan Haider, who rented the building from KMC.

Referring to the building being used as a centre of sports and cultural activities, Yaseen said that they had earlier arranged the Kara Film festival and several other film festivals for children, which were no less than a cultural activity.

Meanwhile, KMC Culture, Sports and Recreation senior director Raza Abbas Rizvi said that they will not allow the reopening of the cinema. Rizvi said that KMC did not receive any such order from the court, however if the Cinepax administration have them, they must present the court orders to them. "With the permission of KMC administrator, they will allow them to reopen the cinema," he said.
