PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has emphasised the need to improve collaboration between Iran and Pakistan to enhance trade and investment.

This was stated in a handout issued by the CM’s Secretariat on Sunday. According to the document, Khattak discussed prospects for strengthening ties between both countries during a telephone conversation with Acting Consul General of Iran in Peshawar Homayoun Amirkhalili.

“Khattak and Amirkhalili discussed prospects of improving ties between Iran and Pakistan in general and K-P in particular,” read the statement. “The central leaderships of both countries have already agreed to enhance the bilateral trade volume up from $300 million to $500 billion.”

The chief minister also said the K-P government plans to hold an event in London to highlight the investment potential of the province.

“He urged Iranian diplomats to attend the event to gain a better understanding of investment opportunities in the province,” read the statement.

Amirkhalili vowed to cooperate with the provincial government to initiate projects aimed at improving energy potential in the region.

“The Iranian diplomat said the governor of Shiraz had voiced an interest in enhancing K-P’s mines and mineral sector,” the handout added. “He also stressed the need to improve coordination between Shiraz and Peshawar with regard to trade
and commerce.”

The handout quoted Khattak as saying, “The province carries potential both for local and foreign investors – particularly energy production, mineral and tourism sectors.”
