At least two policemen were injured on Sunday when an alleged Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) suicide bomber blew himself up during a joint search operation by Rangers and police in Karachi’s Malir area, Express News reported.

“Farhan alias Pehalwan had been residing in Rafa-e-Aam Society of Malir for a year and was working for the banned militant outfit, TTP,” SSP Malir Rao Anwar said.

The alleged terrorist was wanted in several cases of targeted killings of security personnel in the city, the SSP said. Rao Anwar added that security forces were searching for another 15 ‘terrorists’ who belong to the same group.

Further, police sources said the suspected terrorists were planning to carry out terror attacks in Karachi on Eidul Azha.

The injured police personnel, identified as Ashraf and Shoaib, were later shifted to a nearby hospital for provision of medical treatment, the source added.

A huge number of arms and hand grenades were recovered from the place while security forces also rounded up several suspects from the area. Further, raids are being carried out in Bin Qasim, Shah Lateef Town, Alfalah Society and other adjoining areas for the arrest of the remaining suspects.

On Thursday, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh claimed to have foiled a terror bid planned for Eidul Azha by apprehending an alleged terrorist from Orangi Town area of Karachi. According to a CTD official, an accused identified as Omar Hayat alias Muawia alias Darwesh was arrested during a targeted raid conducted on a tip-off in MPR Colony of Orangi Town. Two suicide jackets and two bombs were also recovered from his possession.

Hayat is believed to be spearheading the Karachi chapter of Tehreek-e-Imaraat-e-Islamia Afghanistan. “Hayat is expert at brainwashing young people for suicide bombings as well as making bombs,” claimed SSP CTD Junaid Shaikh.
