The third phase had to be completed in 2012 but due to financial problems it could not
ISLAMABAD:
State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali assured the Senate on Wednesday that the third phase of the Khanpur Water Supply Project would be completed by December 2016. Responding to a calling attention notice, he said the project was started in 2001 and consists of three phases of which two have been completed. The third phase had to be completed in 2012 but due to financial problems it could not, he added. He said the government has allocated funds in Public Sector Development Programme for early completion of the project. Under the project, water storage tanks were to be built and 19-km-long water supply lines were to be laid to provide clean drinking water to residents of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board from Khanpur Dam.
