Emergency workers from Rescue 15 responded to 13,408 phone calls during the last week.
At a performance report presentation by the emergency service, Islamabad Police Operations SSP Sajid Kiani said a quick response unit has been constituted at Rescue 15 to provide immediate help to citizens in emergencies.
The unit will also handle scuffles and domestic disputes till the arrival of local police, according to a news release on Wednesday.
During the briefing, the SSP was told that 15 service vehicles had provided assistance to 515 people; the forensic laboratory had collected evidence from 20 crime scenes; the ambulance service had shifted 153 patients to various hospitals; the bomb disposal squad had conducted inspections at 21 locations and inspected 323 vehicles; vehicle verification staff checked 180 vehicles and motorbikes; information was provided to 5,029 callers; SNGPL, WAPDA and the fire brigade had been informed of nine incidents requiring their action; and that 285 professional beggars had been arrested by a special unit of the service.
SSP Kiani directed Rescue 15 to ensure ‘friendly police ecology’ and urged citizens to avoid placing unnecessary calls to the emergency service.
