Karachi police arrest killer of renowned cleric Shamzai

Accused said to be involved in the killing of other clerics and political opponents

Police arrested on Sunday  a suspect allegedly involved in the killing of renowned religious cleric Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai and other religious and political figures in Karachi.

According to Deputy Inspector General Police Zone West Feroz Shah, Wasi Haider was arrested from the Federal B Industrial area of the metropolis, Express News reported.

He was accused of opening fire on three people, including Shamzai and Mufti Majiduddin Dinpori in Ferozabad area of Karachi in 2004, and killing three activists of another political party during the 2013 general elections in the country.

Further, police claim Haider has confessed to shooting down a police inspector, Nasirul Hasan, in Karachi.

The home department had set Rs5 million as head money for anyone who would help in the arrest of Haider.

The DIG also said that the accused had been taking refuge to avoid being arrested by law enforcement agencies, who had been conducting raids in different parts of the city to arrest his accomplices.

On Monday, Sindh Rangers claimed to have apprehended 10 target killers from different areas of Karachi, six of whom they said belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi group.

While the suspects confessed to having committed a number of heinous crimes, arms were also recovered from their possession, the statement added.

Syed | 8 years ago | Reply Thank Allah our Police is also doing some job, other than collecting bribe and "Chai Pani". Rangers and all law enforcing agencies should get on with the cleansing job with maximum speed. In fact Police should be put under control of Rangers for all operations and training. While Rangers should go for catching the big fish, like Zardari, Q A Shah, Siraj Durrani etc.
