LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) claimed on Thursday to have seized 2,000 kilogrammes of adulterated tea from a warehouse in Yakki Gate area.

Officials said the authority’s Ravi Town team had sealed the warehouse and nabbed its owner. They said the PRA’s Gulberg team had sealed Jalal Sons in Faisal Town for operating without licence, having its workers undergo a medical examination and selling eatables without labels.

They said the PRA had also fined the canteen of the Punjab Group of Colleges, Campus 9, on Canal Road for using inferior quality ketchup and selling substandard slush. The PRA said the washing area of the canteen was also dirty. Officials said the chillers were broken and stuffed with uncovered food. They said employees were found wearing jewellery at work.

The PRA said its Data Ganj Baksh team had sealed the canteen of the Ganga Ram Hospital for poor cleanliness and personal hygiene standards of employees.

Officials said medical certificates of those handling eatables were not available.

The PRA said stale bread was being offered for sale at the canteen. Officials said no soap was available for workers to wash their hands with and employees were smoking while working.

The authority said industrial colour had been used in the products. The PFA said the team had also sealed Doce Sweets and Bakers after finding cockroaches at the premises.

Officials said manufacturing dates had not been mentioned on products and only some of the workers had the required medical documentation.
