TEVTA looking to double number of apprentices

Sheikh said the age limit for recruitment of apprentices had been increased up to 28 years

The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority is looking to recruit 28,000 apprentices under its Apprenticeship Scheme by the end of this year.


TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said on Thursday that the TEVTA had trained 14,000 apprentices till July this year and was looking to train as many trainees in the coming months. He said the Apprenticeship Scheme was being made flexible to offer greater benefit to the youth.

He was addressing a meeting to review progress on the Apprenticeship Training Scheme at the TEVTA Secretariat.

Sheikh said the age limit for recruitment of apprentices had been increased up to 28 years. A summary in this regard has been sent to the government for amendments to apprenticeship rules. He said regional directorates of apprenticeship training had been assigned targets for recruitment of their students in industries in their respective areas.

He said the Apprenticeship Training scheme had been implemented in industries through the Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Training (RDATs) in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and Sialkot. “TEVTA has shown considerable growth regarding the promotion and development of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme in the Punjab.”
