FAISALABAD:
Scores of residents of Chak 187-RB, Faisal Town, staged a demonstration Chak Jhumra police on Sunday for not arresting culprits who shot a man dead a while back.

The protesters, which included several women and children, held up banners and placards at Zila Council Chowk.

The protesters held a sit-in in front of the city district government secretariat and shouted slogans against the police.

Muhammad Amin, one of the protesters, told journalists that his brother Muhammad Saleem was shot dead by his rivals Iman Babar, Adnan Babar and their father Zakariyya among others to avenge an old enmity.

“Chak Jhumra police registered a case against them but the investigation officer and the SHO took a bribe from the suspects.”

He said the police had not arrested any of the suspects despite their repeated requests.

“Instead, they are pressuring us to withdraw our complaint.”

Amin said the suspects had been threatening them with dire consequences if they refused to withdraw their complaint.

The protesters blocked University Road for traffic and demanded that the police arrest the culprits without delay.

Abdul Rasheed, on behalf of the CPO, visited the protest and told the protesters justice would be ensured at all cost.
