FAISALABAD:

A woman detained illegally by police was recovered by a bailiff on Saturday.

Zainab Bibi, a resident of Nankana Sahib, had filed a habeas corpus petition before the district and sessions judge, saying that Madina Town police had detained her cousin Ameeran Bibi and were keeping her in illegal detention.

She said her cousin had not been charged for a crime and police were not disclosing where she was being kept.

Faisalabad District and Session Judge Abid Hussain Qureshi appointed record keeper Ateeq Ahmad as bailiff to recover the woman.

Ahmad raided Madina Town police station and found her.

The bailiff produced the woman in court and said police had made no entry regarding her detention in its journal.

The court released her and summoned the Madina Town SHO on September 7 to explain his stance.
