After a break: Taji Khokhar’s murder trial resumes

Newly-appointed sessions judge to hear case daily

Imtiaz alias Taji Khokhar

RAWALPINDI:
The hearing of a murder case against Imtiaz alias Taji Khokhar, his sons and 13 of his staffers has been adjourned till September 12.

At the hearing on Saturday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra ordered for the case to be heard on a daily basis after the next date of hearing.

Despite court orders, witnesses for the prosecution failed to appear the day before. The court added that no further postponement in the case will be allowed.

The last few hearings of the case were adjourned owing to non-presence of a judge.

Tahir Khan Niazi, the additional district and sessions judge hearing the case against Khokhar, was murdered at his residence last month. Police claim to have arrested the judge’s killers. Khokhar is accused of murdering Sabira Bibi in Dhoke Gangal over a land dispute in August 2012.

Airport police registered an FIR against Khokhar and several others including Khokhar’s sons and employees. The suspects were sent to Adiala Jail in 2013.

Khokhar is the brother of former national assembly deputy speaker Haji Nawaz Khokhar, of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
