Scotland Yard concludes investigation in Imran Farooq murder case

FIA offical says Mohsin Ali confessed to involvement in MQM leader's murder

A Scotland Yard team left for London on Friday after concluding its investigation into Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case.

“The team concluded their investigation and have left for London,” a member of FIA’s joint investigation team told The Express Tribune.

During its three-day visit to Islamabad, a three-member team of Scotland Yard quizzed a key accused, Mohsin Ali, who according to senior Federal Investigation Agency officials confessed to his involvement in this case.

“In its second round of investigation, the Scotland Yard team quizzed Mohsin Ali and he confessed to working with Moazzam Ali's company, Com-net,” FIA officials said.

“Moazzam Ali and Khalid Shamim are two other prime suspects in Imran Farooq’s murder case,” they added.

The investigation team also met the head of joint investigation team, Inam Ghani, who has already submitted his preliminary report in this case to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, officials said.

Mohsin Ali also revealed before JIT last month that he has been working for All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation and facilitated Kashif's travel to the United Kingdom, the official added.

Further, the officials said, “The visiting team recorded Mohsin Ali’s statement and also met other officials of FIA and Ministry of Interior in Islamabad.”

In August this year, the Scotland Yard team also visited Pakistan where they quizzed Moazzam Ali Khan and Kashif who are currently in custody of intelligence agencies in Islamabad. Meanwhile, JIT members also revealed that another accused Kashif Kamran is also still being quizzed by them in this case.

Earlier this week, Pakistan gave access to UK authorities to the key accused in MQM leader’s murder case, days after Nisar met British Home Secretary Theresa May in London last week. According to the official, Nisar and his counterpart discussed an option of handing all three of the accused to Scotland Yard.

Before this development, authorities in Islamabad were indecisive whether to give access to London police to the third accused or not.
