PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government does not plan to privatise Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) and will instead introduce reforms in the energy sector to enhance its capacity. This was stated in a handout issued on Thursday.

The provincial government is following a policy to strengthen the economic condition of the province and improve the quality of life of the public. Therefore, it has declared a power emergency and directed the energy department to initiate viable power projects so that energy crisis in the country can be resolved.

The handout quoted a PEDO official as saying that if the organisation operates on modern corporate lines it will be able to generate more profits for the province.

“In order to modernise the official structure, services of experts from the corporate sector are being hired,” the official was quoted as saying. “However, at the same time it would be ensured that interests of existing employees are safeguarded.”
