Promotions declared null and void by SC

ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court (SC) scrapped the upgradation of 54 civil servants into grade-22 officers, terming it a violation of article 4 of the constitution on Wednesday.

The promotions have been declared null and void by the Supreme Court which says that the upgradations were unconstitutional.

The Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had reshuffled almost the entire top brass of the bureaucracy on September 4, 2009.

Those ignored in the promotions moved the Supreme Court, pleading that massive injustice had been done to them.

The Supreme Court in its decision observed that the principles of merit and eligibility were ignored. It has directed relevant authorities to review the promotions.

Among the officers who have been affected by the Supreme Court's decision are the Prime Minister's principal secretary Nargis Sethi, IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar, FBR Chairman Suhail Ahmad, Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad, and Secretary Petroleum Kamran Lashari.
