The US did not fare well either with nine of its cities making it to the top 15. Atlantic City in New Jersey was ranked second with one visitor commenting, “It’s fun - if you like to gamble and don’t mind rude, fast-paced people.”
Even cities famous for their nightlife, food and culture, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, and Miami also featured very high in the list of unfriendliest cities. One irritated visitor said that Los Angeles was full of, “Rude, unhelpful people trying to scam you for everything." While one tourist said of New York, “New York has everything - just don’t ask a person in the street to help you find it.”
French cities, Marseille and Cannes, made it to the list at number 4 and 10 respectively. Beijing in China and Frankfurt in Germany were not considered very kind and friendly cities for tourists either.
However, on the other end of the spectrum, Galway in Ireland was named as the friendliest city in the world tourists saying it was home to the “friendliest people they had every met”. Scottish capital, Edinburgh, was also appreciated for its friendliness, with visitors describing the Scottish city as “enchanting” and “magical”.
