Nursing wounds: Nurses protest against doctor who slapped colleague

MULTAN: Nurses at Nishtar Hospital protested against a doctor at the hospital for assaulting a nurse on Saturday.

Maria, a ward no.12 nurse, administered a drip to a patient and reported to Dr Imran in the afternoon. According to eyewitnesses, Dr Imran slapped the nurse after discovering that she had administered the drip without his permission.

Hospital administration said that Dr Imran had apologised to the nurse.

However, the entire nursing staff at Nishtar Hospital protested in front of the hospital medical superintendent’s office for several hours against the incident and boycotted their duties.

The staff then went to the prime minister’s house in the district and protested outside his house for two hours. The nurses demanded that an inquiry be launched into the case and that Dr Imran be sacked from his position at the hospital.

The nurses also appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, and said that they would launch a strike if their demands were not met.

sunny | 13 years ago | Reply A very pitiful situation in Pakistan. Nurses are part of one of the most respected profession i.e. medical. they deserve the same respect as do doctors as they equally contribute in caring the ailing humanity. However, shameful attitude of male doctors has surfaced against female nurses. this should be checked strictly and doctors found involved in such attitude their licence of practicing medicine be cancelled.
