MIRANSHAH:

Five militants were killed and three others injured in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) when a predator drone fired two missiles at a compound that housed militants, officials said on Tuesday night.

The drone surveyed the Karwanda area of Datta Khel for a few hours before firing the missiles at the compound.

“Five militants were killed and three others injured,” local sources and officials confirmed. Foreign militants were also reportedly among those killed. Their identities, however, could not immediately be ascertained.

Sources said the death toll could rise as the current assessment of damage to life and property was preliminary.

Karwanda is located 35 kilometres west of Miranshah, the agency headquarters of NWA, close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The area is adjacent to Shawal Valley, where the military has recently extended Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists.
