Eye-witness account: ‘I saw grilled corn, but not my grandson’

I was wounded and also saw people lying down with injuries

“When I reached the spot I saw grilled corn outside the office of the political administration, but not my grandson,” said Ashiq Khan, the grandfather of 10-year-old grilled-corn vendor Imran, explained how grieved he was when he found his grandson was missing after the blast.


Ashiq said that he was home at Waisa area of Jamrud tehsil when he heard about the attack. He rushed to the market and inquired about Imran but could not find him.

“I was searching for him when someone asked me to visit HMC,” the grandfather told The Express Tribune. He rushed to the HMC surgical ward and found that his grandson sustained injuries below the abdomen.

Another wounded child, Nadar Khan, 14, of Ghundai area said that he works at a local hotel and was delivering an order when he came under attack: “I was wounded and also saw people lying down with injuries. I was transported by a government ambulance but there were many others who were being driven in private vehicles,” Nadar told The Express Tribune. He also said that his aunt was also in the market along with her son, adding that he met his cousin but his aunt was still missing.
