KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court repeated notices to the Sindh Rangers director-general and others on a petition challenging the arrest of the Sindh Higher Education Commission's chairperson, Dr Asim Hussain.

A division bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, was hearing a petition filed by Dr Zareen Hussain, the wife of the arrested chairperson of the Ziauddin Group of Hospitals in Karachi.  She had approached the high court last Thursday to challenge the detention of her husband and to seek his transfer to the hospital for medical assistance. The bench turned down Dr Zareen's request to shift her husband to the hospital — the same day the Rangers had declared his arrest and the anti-terrorism court had granted them his detention for 90 days.

The bench had, however, issued notices to the Rangers DG and others to file their comments by Monday.

When the two judges took up the matter, they found that the Rangers DG had not filed any comments. Adjourning the hearing, the bench repeated notice to the paramilitary force's provincial chief to file comments by the next date of hearing.
