Tragedy in AJK: Doctor couple killed in road accident

MUZAFFARABAD:

A couple and a passenger died on Monday in a road accident in Rawalakot. A bus (AJK-016) of University of Poonch, Rawalakot hit a car (LXM 6878) coming from the opposite direction near Jandachi in Datote police station’s limits, the police said.

The bus was on its way to Naran-Kaghan, taking students for an excursion trip. The couple and a woman travelling in the car died on the spot.

The deceased were residents of Pakgali Village of Rawalakot District. The couple, identified as Dr Rizwan and Dr Nayer Rizwan, was working as professors at the Poonch Medical College, Rawalakot, whereas the woman, a relative of the couple, was identified as Nidal Irshad. The bodies were handed over to the relatives following completion of medico-legal formalities. They were buried in their ancestral graveyard in Pakgali.

Protest over Indian firing

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Women Caucus took out a protest rally from the Centre Press Club to Gharipan Chowk on Monday against unprovoked Indian firing along the working boundary and the line of control (LoC).

A large number of civil society members, lawyers and others attended the rally led by AJK Deputy Speaker Shaheen Kausar Dar to show solidarity with the armed forces and the victims.

“India wants to put regional peace at stake by violating the ceasefire by shelling and killing innocent civilians,” Kausar said while addressing the protesters.

She said that the people of AJK and Pakistan were peace-loving but India could face dire consequences if it continued to violate the ceasefire.

Kausar said that world powers and the United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan should come forward to keep the inviolability of the LoC and the working boundary to keep away clouds of war hovering over the region.

AJK Rehabilitation Minister Abdul Majid Khan said that Indian military must keep in mind that Pakistan was a nuclear state and any war between the two rivals would have far-reaching consequences for India not for Pakistan.
