Tragedy strikes: Minor killed, 16 others injured

A minor was killed and 16 others were injured when a passenger pickup plunged into a ravine in Saidu Sharif on Wednesday.

According to the details, the vehicle was en route to Saidu Sharif from Marghuzar when the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn in Sapal Bhandai. As a result, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a ravine.

“Malaika, a minor, was killed on the spot,” the official said. “At least 16 other passengers were injured. The wounded were taken to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a carjacker was arrested in Rahimabad area of Swat Valley.

Allama Iqbal, a resident of Lower Dir, was taken into custody during a raid on a compound. A stolen van was recovered from him.

“The vehicle was stolen within the jurisdiction of Rahimabad police station some days ago,” he said. “We increased surveillance and security to find the culprit. On Wednesday morning, we received an intelligence tip-off about Iqbal’s whereabouts and raided a compound in Rahimabad.”
