QUETTA: Balochistan, the largest province of the country, has no dedicated prison for women who are currently housed in separate barracks in district prisons of Quetta and Lasbela, said Assistant Inspector General Prisons, Balochistan, Ziaullah Khan Tareen in an interview with APP on Sunday. With on 18 female inmates across the province, it is quite understandable why the provincial government has not built an exclusive penitentiary for women. Tareen said that they had submitted a summary to Quetta commissioner for procurement of land for building a prison for women. “If the commissioner provides us land, a women’s jail can be built at a cost of Rs25 million,” he said. At present, two prisons of Balochistan including Quetta and Gadani have 18 women lodged in separate barracks.
