The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) never opposed the ongoing operation in Karachi and has only stressed that it should be held in a transparent manner under the ambit of law, the party's parliamentary leader of the political party Farooq Sattar has said.

Addressing a press conference at the party's headquarters Nine Zero on Thursday, Sattar lamented that the premier did not address their concerns during his latest visit to the megalopolis, Express News reported.

The statement came hours after Prime Minister chaired a high level National Apex Committee meeting wherein he categorically declared that the operation in Karachi would not be halted 'at any cost'.

During the meeting, he noted that the law and order situation in the city had improved and added that the operation will be continued 'at all costs'.

"Who did the premier refer to when he said that the operation would not be stopped," Sattar asked, adding, "Prime Minister returned without answering our constitutional questions."

"Rule of law should be adhered to during the operation in Karachi," he stressed.

Sattar also said that his party enjoyed 80 per cent mandate of the province’s urban areas.

The press conference witnessed a brief disturbance as heavy contingents of Rangers patrolled the streets adjacent to Nine Zero.

Imran Qadri | 9 years ago | Reply Only direct and indirect beneficiary of Mafia rule in karachi are creating rumpus otherwise majority of Karachiites are very very happy and satisfied with outcome and heading of operation against terrorists by rangers. Anyone neutral can clearly see that crime rate is down in Karachi and people celebrated Pakistan’s independence day without any fear and people were out on the streets of Karachi with their families in record numbers unlike previous years when Karachi was plagued with political violence, target killing and terrorism. It shows that operation is headed in right direction.
Hasan Askari | 9 years ago | Reply The biggest evidence that indicates this operation has political aims is the fact that rangers and government are not agreeing to a monitoring committee. It is like a thief not agreeing to police monitoring. Once again I do not think MQM wants to stop the operation. One good thing that came out of this is that establishment has stopped supporting their outfits like lej, lashkars etc. Then they gave safe passage to lyari thugs (which is not right as they should have been in courts). They then made a deal with PPP also. That has brought relief to Karachites who have been looted at federal and province level and were being looted by these criminals as well. Operation can continue however Killings without due process needs to stop Kidnapping people without any charges need to stop Safe passage to criminals like zulfiqar mirza, baloch should not have been given Deals with sons of soils should not have been cut More real action is needed against Lal Masjid, Lashkars etc. Establishment should condemn Lashkars in open. like they comment on TTP Model town culprits should be dealt with looters should be caught Imran Khan should be arressted for threatening police, attacking PTV Once we such actions then this operation will be considered normal. Right now its basically establishment stopping its proxies and doing political game.
