7 killed, 8 injured in AJK road accident

Datsun pickup was on way to Bana headquarters from Kandao area when the driver lost control of the vehicle

BATTAGRAM: At least seven passengers were killed and eight others injured when a passenger pickup plunged into a roadside gorge in Bakila union council area of Azad Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.

Allai UC District Councillor Qudus Khan said a Datsun pickup carrying over 15 passengers, with several of them hanging on the sides, was on its way to Bana headquarters from Kandao area on Saturday morning when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall several hundred feet down the ravine.

As a result, four of the passengers were killed on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries after arriving at Ban Civil Hospital.

Rescue workers were busy shifting bodies and the injured to the hospital, while three critically injured were referred to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, Khan added.

Earlier on Monday, at least six people were killed in different incidents across Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
