KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Katchi Abadis Javed Nagori resigned from his post on Friday allegedly over differences with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership.

Although a spokesperson of the chief minister house cited health as the official reason for the minister’s resignation, sources privy to the matter told The Express Tribune that the much coveted post of secretary general of Karachi division and tickets for upcoming local government election were the major points of contention that led Nagori to resign.

A few days ago, Nagori had said that, “In Karachi, PPP only wins from Lyari, but no one consults them while appointing a Karachi division president. The incumbent party president doesn’t belong to Lyari, which is considered a stronghold of the party.”

Nagori was elected from Lyari, PS-108 Karachi XX.

Reports suggest a reshuffle in portfolios in the Sindh government is expected soon as some ministers are not satisfied with the departments given to them.

“Education ministry was given to Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani a few weeks ago, but he is reluctant to take charge because of his dispute with Secretary Education Faizulluah Pechuho, an influential bureaucrat who happens to be brother-in-law of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari,” an official said on the condition of anonymity.

He added that recently returned Sharjeel Inam Memon, who was shifted from the information ministry to works and services, has started lobbying for his old ministry.

“Once again a reshuffle is on the cards in the cabinet and bureaucracy,” sources revealed.
