Independence Day events: Folk singers, children present colourful programmes

PNCA arranges elaborate cultural shows in capital, event in Pindi held

Cultural programmes featuring national and folk songs and dances were presented at the Pakistan National Council of Arts auditorium as part of the Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday night. Students of various institutes also presented colourful programmes.


One Wednesday, the council held a music show. The evening began with Bano Rehmat’s popular Kashmiri song ‘Meray Watan Teri Jannat Main Ayaingay ek Din’, followed by ‘Tera Pakistan Hai Ye Mera Pakistan Hai’ by Rizwana Khan, and Mehr Angaiz Group’s performance of ‘Mai Ro Watan’ from Gilgit-Baltistan.

Renowned Baloch singer Akhtar Chanal performed ‘Daney Pe Dana’, while Sindh’s folk artist Wahid Bux presented ‘Itne Baray Jeevan Saagar Mein Tu Ne Pakistan Diya’.




Popular folk tunes from K-P, were presented by Gulraiz Tabassum. Tahira Noor from Punjab presented ‘Is Parcham Kay Sayay Talay Hum Aik Hain’ and ‘Chand Roshan Chamkta Sitara Rahe’.

Artists presented colourful folk dances including: Kashmiri, Balti, Khattak, Bhangra, Balochi Leva and Sindhi Jhoomer. All performers received rousing applause from the audience.

Meanwhile children presented a skit depicting importance of cultural diversity and unity on Thursday getting applaud from the audience. Addressing the children and audience PNCA Director General (DG) Shabbir Ahmed said these celebrations should serve to educate the younger generation of the sacrifices made by their elders, and for them to realise their future responsibilities.



The programme included a puppet show, where children were given a message of the importance of independence, education and a healthy environment. Students from different schools and universities also delivered speeches highlighting the significance of independence and national pride, and also presented patriotic songs and tableaus. The council’s Repertory Theatre Section also presented a play. A magic show also amused children in the packed PNCA auditorium.

In Rawalpindi’s Ayub National Park, a special festival was inaugurated by the Darakhshan Association for Special Persons, on Thursday. Special children from the association performed the national anthem and other colourful programmes. Isphanyar Bhandara, chief executive of Murree Brewery was the chief guest. Members of civil society, media and the public also attended the event in large number.
