ISLAMABAD: As tension between Pakistan and its archrival India continues along the working boundary and the Line of Control, the three services chiefs on Tuesday vowed to respond to ‘the entire spectrum of threat’, which covers both internal and external challenges.

According to the military’s media wing, the ISPR, this resolve was made in a meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC), presided over by JCSC Chairman General Rashad Mahmood at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, defence secretary and senior military officers from the three services attended the meeting.

“Participants appreciated the strides against the menace of terrorism and reviewed the progress made in the ongoing operations against terrorists,” said the ISPR in a statement. It said issues pertaining to national security, emerging regional geo-strategic environment, and joint military education and training were also dilated upon by the forum.

The participants expressed satisfaction over the standard of preparedness of the armed forces in view of the upcoming challenges being faced by the country. They also appreciated the relief and rescue operations carried out by the armed forces in different parts of the country during the recent floods.

“The forum reaffirmed the resolve to respond to entire spectrum of threat in the most befitting manner as per comprehensive security strategy,” added the statement.

The JCSC is a quarterly meeting of senior military leadership to carry out the assessment and evaluation of operational preparedness of all three services, especially in the context of articulation within the armed forces.
