According to food department officials requesting anonymity, Ashok Kumar was a small-time trader until a couple of years back. "But with the backing of influential politicians and officials of the food department, he owns many factories today," they said. These include Sindh flourmills, Ghotki flourmills, Ghotki cotton mills, Shehenshah Admore fuel station, Shehenshah flourmills, Shehenshah rice mills, Bhittai rice mills, Qalandari rice mills and Momal rice mills.
