Independence Day: LWMC chalks out plan to hold celebrations

LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) will hold several events to commemorate the Independence Day.

LWMC Managing Director Khalid Majeed and management of Turkish companies associated with its operations will attend the ceremonies. The national flag will be hoisted at LWMC head office, 35 zonal offices and workshops. Especially-designed floats will be exhibited on the roads on the 13th and 14th of August. LWMC, Albayrak and Ozpak will set up camps at the Faisal Chowk. A cleanliness drive will be started in the city by the district government.

Faisalabad

On Monday, Faisalabad DCO Noorul Amin Mengal presided over a meeting to review preparations for Independence Day celebrations.

The DCO said that the city would be decorated with national flags, buntings and banners. He said a national songs competition would be arranged. “The first three position holders will be given prizes worth Rs100,000, Rs50,000 and Rs30,000 respectively,” he said.

He directed the Education Department to hold declamation contests. He said that the private sector would also be invited to take part in the Independence Day events. He directed officers to organise musical concerts on August 14. “Special programmes will be arranged to highlight the struggle of the Muslims of the subcontinent for a separate homeland,” he said.

The DCO said that 20 sports events would be arranged by the District Sports Committee on the Independence Day.

He said that special events would also be held at the SOS Children’s Village, orphanages, hospitals and other welfare institutions. The DCO asked the administrations of the Agriculture University, the GC University, Faisalabad and the Government College for Women University to organise plays and declamation contests.
