DIJKOT:

A woman and her newborn baby died during delivery at a private hospital in the Batala Colony area of Faisalabad, allegedly due to negligence of medical staff, prompting protest by the bereaved family and a brief commotion at the hospital, police said.

According to details, Hira, a resident of Chak 224 RB Wazir Khan Wali and eight months and ten days pregnant, was taken to a private hospital within the jurisdiction of Batala Colony Police Station for delivery.

Family members alleged that due to untrained staff and inadequate medical facilities, the woman was administered an incorrect injection, after which the newborn first died and the mother also passed away shortly afterwards.

The grieving family further claimed that several similar deaths of women and newborns had previously occurred at the same hospital, raising serious concerns over its medical standards.

Protesters staged a demonstration inside the hospital, accusing the administration of lacking qualified doctors and proper emergency facilities, and alleging that repeated incidents were resulting in preventable loss of life.

They also claimed that instead of accepting responsibility, hospital staff reacted aggressively, pushed protesters, and issued threats when they raised objections.

Following the incident, relatives demanded strict action against the doctors and hospital administration.

Police from Batala Colony reached the scene and held negotiations with the protesters, assuring them of a thorough investigation.

After the assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
